SEIZURE AND ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHY (EEG) FEATURES IN ROLANDIC EPILEPSY PATIENTS AT R. D. KANDOU HOSPITAL

Abstract

ERis the most common type of focal epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes in children. ER is characterized by infrequent hemifacial sensorimotor seizures, oropharyngolaryngeal symptoms, speech arrest, hypersalivation. Seizure can be transform into atypical features with electrical status in slow-wave sleep (ESES) in EEG features. Aim of this study is to identify the seizure and EEG features in ER subjects in R. D. Kandou Hospital. This study is a descriptive retrospective study with consecutive sampling obtained from secondary data of subjects with ER at R. D. Kandou Hospital during January 2018- December 2019. EEG was done in 28 subjects diagnosed with ER at R. D. Kandou Hospital, there were 16 males (57,1%) and 12 females (42,9%). Only 1 subject reported as atypical rolandic epilepsy. Oropharyngeal seizure obtained in 16 subjects (57,1%), automatism obtained in 6 subjects (21,4%), motoric abnormalities obtained in all subjects. The interictal features was obtained in 27 subjects (96,4%) with unilateral spike and wave patterns in 20 subjects (71,4%) and bilateral spike and wave patterns in 8 subjects (28,6%). 1 subjects (3,6%) obtained interictal feature showing ESES. Unilateral spike and wave patterns include 9 subjects (45%) with left centrotemporal spikes and 11 subjects (55%) in right centrotemporal spikes. Most of EEG’s abnormality found in sleep state. Clinical features in subjects diagnosed with BECTS at R. D. Kandou Hospital is predominantly motoric abnormalities and EEG patterns is predominantly unilateral spike and wave.
