ABSTRACT
Introduction: The differentiation between hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke based on clinical examination, stroke scoring system and Brain CT-Scan examination. The change of hematocrit levels is occur in ischemic and hemorrhagic strokeacute. Aim: The objective of this study is to investigate hematocrit levels changes an ischemic and hemorrhagic strokee, in an attempt to find a simple method based on these blood change for differentiating the stroketypes. Methods: A descriptive – retrospective cross sectional study was conducted in the Neurological Department of National Hospital Prof. R. D.Kandou Manado from May 2013 until May 2015 by using secundary data. Result: 130 patiens with acute strokewere subjected to this study, comprising of 93 ischemic and 37 hemorrhagic strokePeripheral blood examinations were done within 3 days of acute strokehematocrit levels were measured in the laboratory. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22 statistical program. Sex ratio of strokebetween male and female 1,9 : 1. Highst age incidence for all strokewas 51 – 60 year age group ( 36% ). This study showed that hematocrit level higher significantly in ischemic stroke( p=0,02 ). Discussion: This finding suggests that hematocrit level change might be used as a mean for differentiating ischemic from hemorrhagic stroke when CT – Scan is not available.
